The hosted build requires a Vaquill AI account and subscription. The open source Community edition does not require a Vaquill AI subscription and uses the user's own AI provider, with any applicable provider or hosting costs paid separately.

The hosted build sends document text to the Vaquill AI backend. The Community edition does not use the Vaquill AI hosted backend and sends documents and prompts only to the AI provider selected by the user. When local Ollama is used, project materials state that nothing leaves the user's machine.
