What the archive is
Legal AI Archive is an independent directory of AI tools for substantive legal work. It spans the full range of the field — from open-source projects to commercial platforms — and is compiled entirely from public vendor and project information.
How tools are listed
Inclusion reflects a tool’s public positioning for substantive legal work. Listings are written in the archive’s own neutral language, drawn from the vendor’s or project’s public materials. Where a detail cannot be confirmed from public sources, it is left out rather than assumed.
How tools are categorised
Tools are grouped by area of legal work — not by quality or by any judgement of which is better. Categories are broad and non-exclusive: a tool may appear in several. A category is assigned only where the vendor’s public positioning clearly supports it.
How security and deployment information is treated
Structured tags are limited to a small set of vendor-stated facts: SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, self-hosted or on-premises availability, private-cloud or dedicated deployment availability, and an unqualified vendor statement that client content submitted to the listed product is not used to train AI models. A statement limited to an underlying model provider, plan, feature, deployment mode or model category does not support the no-training tag. More nuanced matters — including zero data retention, DPAs, privacy-law claims, HIPAA or BAA statements, data residency, retention periods and deletion controls — are recorded in attributed notes rather than converted into tags.
What the archive does not do
The archive does not quality-rank, recommend, endorse, verify or certify any tool. Security and compliance details are recorded only as the vendor states them on its own pages, never as findings of the archive. Nothing here is legal advice or a recommendation to use any tool.
Paid options
Vendors may confirm a listing, add an Enhanced profile, or sponsor the archive. Paid options are always clearly labelled and affect presentation and placement only. They never affect whether a tool is listed, how it is categorised, or how its security and jurisdiction details are recorded. Sponsored and Enhanced listings are individually badged wherever they appear, and the default directory order is disclosed as paid placement.
